HMP Fosse Way prison extension project approval
The new four-story building was given the green light at the planning committee held on Thursday 15 December by the councillors. The planned extension will also cover a two-storey ancillary building, a sports area and 80 extra parking spaces located north of the site. The design of the buildings is set to match those already being constructed on the site of the former Glen Parva Institution. Due to this plan, an economic boost has been seen locally thanks to the construction of the new HMP Fosse Way and hope this extension will help prolong that. The site created 230 jobs and 16 apprenticeships during construction and when open, it will offer more than 600 jobs, providing a further significant boost to the local economy. The expected completion year is 2025 and I believe we need more projects to create employment and economic wealth in our borough.
